Spotify App

Goal:
Improve User experience for the Playlist function of the Spotify music App.

Research:
Interviewed six users and identified their Pain Points when using the Spotify App.
Age Group: 28-35
Device: 90% iPhone
Frequency of Use: 4-6 Hours per day
Needs: Make it easier to create, edit and use playlists.

PAIN POINTS:
• can’t recognize playlist by looking at the artwork, and thumbnails of 4 images per album too small to read
• endless scrolling to find a playlist on the PLAYLIST main page
• can’t create a playlist directly from the PLAYLIST main page
• can’t delete a song directly from my playlist
• can’t share a song directly from my playlist
• can’t access Radio (media search function) directly from my playlist
• can’t organize my playlist songs
• can’t add a song from one of my playlists directly to another of my playlists
• too many clicks and steps to do any of the actions mentioned above

SOLUTIONS
• replaced the 4 thumbnails image with a single image of the album cover from the last song added
• added option to view each playlist in tiled or list format on the PLAYLISTS main page
• added Create a Playlist icon to the PLAYLISTS main page
• made all actions accessible in each of my playlists by swiping a song to the left, then pressing the desired icon. See the location of these icons highlighted in the image below.
